While the boys enjoyed a great 3.5 – 2.5 win on Sunday, unfortunately those earlier losses in Rounds 3 and 4 came back to bite them, and they will not be progressing through to the semi-finals. However, they must be congratulated on their season and the spirit they played in.
With three debutantes playing this year, they’re sure to be stronger for it next year, and the future for Leonay looks bright. Congratulations to Coby, Zac, Eric, Ben, Bailey, Kane and Jake, and not to forget Manager Ben Breckenridge and Assistant Manager Dylan Meikle. You all did your club proud.
The boys traveled up the mountains this week to take on Georges Hall at Wentworth Falls. Unfortunately they could only field a team of 5 this week, which meant having to forfeit one match, and went down 4-2. Every match in the final round will count now if they’re to progress past the minor rounds.
Good luck guys.
The third round of the Junior Pennants series saw Leonay facing Stonecutters Ridge at Stonecutters Ridge in what was always going to be a tough round. While Leonay went down in a 4.5 – 1.5 result, strong performances from everyone (including a win from Coby Carruthers and a half from Eric Summers) has put Leonay into a good position, especially after the first two rounds (see below). Those 1.5 matches will be very valuable come the end of the competition rounds if the boys can keep going as they have been.
On Sunday the team traveled to Campbelltown for the second leg of the Junior Pennants season, and did not disappoint with an outstanding 5-1 victory. Two wins from the first two rounds sees them in a great position.
The 2019 Junior Pennants season got off to a great start with Leonay hosting the first round. And our crack team of Coby Caruthers, Zac Lange, Eric Summers, Bailey Alexander, Jake Thompson and Kane Harper took full advantage, scoring a 6-0 victory against Liverpool. The supporters who came out to watch saw some fantastic golf played from both sides.
Individual results were;
Coby Caruthers: 4/2
Zac Lange: 2/1
Eric Summers: 2/1
Bailey Alexander: 5/4
Jake Thompson: 6/5
Kane Harper: Forfeit (if you asked Kane I’m sure he’d just say 10/8)
Special mention also to Billy ‘the Hot Dog King’ Klohn providing sustenance for all teams at the half-way point, Club Captain Ross Butcher as the Organizer and John Kennedy who was a very busy boy combing the course as the rules official for all teams playing. Without this type of involvement we would not be able to offer the great experience the visiting teams had. Well done gents.
The Junior Pennants format sees six teams in Division 4 play one home game each, with Leonay also today hosting Campbelltown playing Georges Hall and Wentworth Falls playing Stonecutters Ridge. There’ll be some strong competition coming up, but the Ben Breckenridge-managed Leonay team look up to the challenge. Good luck boys.
