Strong performances today saw both teams finish the season with a 2-1 victory. Unfortunately, despite winning every home game, without an away win it’s the end of their run.
Half-way sustenance was provided by Billy Klohn and prepared and served by John Kennedy and Mabel McCormick, and was appreciated by Leonay and their opponents alike. Great to see so many out their to support our teams, especially considering it was Father’s day. Special mention to Noel Rowsell who got in the way of a social player’s rogue ball and went down. Fortunately (although a little sore) he’s none-the-worse, and was able to grab some great photos from the day’s event prior to getting hit – see here.
Congratulations to all the players, caddies and managers, along with the officials and supporters for a great competition. Once again Leonay’s reputation as a friendly and well supported club has been enhanced. While both teams just fell short of progressing though to the next stage, you all did us proud.
Both Teams lost their away game against Wallacia today. Leonay’s Warren side went down 2-1, while the Gibson side lost 2.5-0.5.
Next week both teams will be at home. Let’s get out and support them for the final round of the regular competition.
Some great results today against Wallacia at Leonay with the Warren side winning 2-1 and the Gibson side winning 3-0. Congratulations to all involved, especially Billy Klohn who was unable to play but still chipped in by providing hot-dogs to everyone at the halfway house. Super effort that…..
Very important for both teams to follow up with the return match away at Wallacia next week. Good luck gents.
Unfortunately both teams suffered another loss today in the return match at Penrith. The Warren team fell 3-0, while the Gibson team lost 2-1.
Next week both teams are at home against Wallacia. Any support is most welcome as both sides will be looking for a much needed victory.
Round 2 saw a turn around in fortunes. The Warren side travelled to Springwood where they went down in a hard-fought 2-1 loss. The Gibson side had to travel to the tough and hazardous Lynwood Country Club and unfortunately fell 3-0.
The first round of the Warren and Gibson Shield Pennants kicked off today with Leonay playing Penrith at Leonay. The usual great turnout of supporters saw the Warren side of Jack Mallard and Steve Masters, Ross Butcher and Craig Malvern, and Steve Mallard and Shane ‘Harry’ Anderson win all their matches convincingly. (3 – 0)
The Gibson side of Scott White and Barry Mason, Billy Klohn and John Liddell, and Noel Rowsell and Matt Neil clinched a come-from-behind victory, winning two matches and squaring the third. (2.5 – 0.5)
Well done to all competitors, caddys, managers, spectators, ball-spotters and officials. Next week the teams are away at Springwood.
Good luck gents!
